It may have damaged or tripped one of the sensors in the rear of the car. I'm not sure if this can be cleared by an obd2 reader or not. You could try taking it to auto zone to see if they can read and clear it or if you have a reader you can try it yourself. If not, it may need to go to the dealer as sometimes safety systems are locked out from the general public.

I would suggest purchasing an ELM327 Bluetooth adapter, they are very handy and will save you time and money when codes pop up. They are about $10 which is cheaper than a couple trips to and from the parts store to get a code read.

Best of luck and I'm glad your wife wasn't hurt.

Must be a dealer only thing unless techstream can do it. Techstream is a cable and software package that is made by toyota. You can find a setup online for around $ 20-30. I don't know if it has this capability however. Perhaps a techstream owner will chime in.

Can the bluetooth module read airbag codes? I thought that was left to much more expensive and advanced readers, and Toyota techstream.

Take the car to a dealer or a shop and see if they can read any airbag codes. It could be the sensor, or simply a wire knocked loose.

The closest airbag sensors to the rear of the car would be the side impact sensors, which are located in the upper part of the C pillar (if I recall). The airbag inflator is located in that C pillar there as well. Seat belt and occupant sensors are also part of the SRS system too, so you might want to check the wiring under the seat.

Is your airbag light on flashing or solid? Solid red means its usually a big problem and the airbag may not deploy in a collision.
