Question Insurance

ok i'm sure all of u know now from some of my posts that i'm gettin closer and closer to gettin a 99 ES300. Anyway i was wondering if the insurance on the ES300 is more than most cars? I had been on a website that showed auto reviews and it claimed it has a high insurance rate for this car yet this site doesn't seem to be accurate with things like that. Is this true?

I wouldn't say the insurance for the ES is higher than most cars, but I'd say it is generally high. My father's insurance for his '98 BMW is much higher than my ES. It really also depends on which insurance carrier you look into, your age, residency, vehicle and accident/ticket history, etc. If the website for an insurance company doesn't show accurate auto data, then I'd keep on shopping. Just my two cents.

just as lexusk8 mentioned, there are so many aspects as to the difference in insurance prices. lexusk8 covered most of them. generally there are many differnet things that can change the price. including what is covered in the insurance itself. the higher the coverage the higher the premium. it's common knowledge i know, but you gotta have enough coverage to be able to save the car in case of accident. as well as yourself.

don't forget location, location, location.
Example: My car registered in Boston would be about $2500/year. The same car, same driver, same coverage but registered in my town is $1041/year. I live an a coastal town about 20 miles south of Boston.

Wow Stevie, you must be glad not to live in Boston to put up with the insane insurance premiums. Maybe that's one of the reasons why there are so many people (especially those of the working class) now living in the towns outside of Boston surrounding I-95 and I-495 (i.e. Burlington, Framingham, etc.). Still, I keep hearing MA charges one of the highest insurance costs in the US.

I'm paying $1750/year with my '01 ES. My cousin from NYC told me I would be paying at least 3 grand if my car were registered there

I'm paying $292 for six months. Each 6 month renewal gets less if I maintain good driving record.

In comparison to it's entry level luxury class...it's on average. But if you compare it to a Camry...it will cost more since it's in the "luxury" category.

Here in Southern Illinois, I pay 276.43 for 6 months of full coverage insurance on my 2002 ES 300. Spouse chooses to drive a new, small, domestic car, Focus, and cost is nearly the same. I believe having all insurance coverage (home, office, life, auto, etc) at one company can make a large difference in total cost. Obviously, living in the middle of nowhere helps too!!!

Ouch ... well I know you're still young, but have you considered shopping around other insurance carriers? I don't think I could stand paying that much in your position, and there are dozens of carriers offering free auto quotes and such online or over the phone. If you wish, you could also take a safety driver's course through AAA or similar, and get a discount with your insurance premium. Just my two cents.
