2005 ES330 with AVS/TEMS Strut Replacements?

Did you have to change the mounts? I am glad you posted your results as my retired parents are looking at this problem right now. They live in a cold climate and need their traction control and ABS. But at $4000 to fix the suspension my advice is to sell the car and buy a new one because it just isn't worth it. Can you list all the parts you had to buy to do the swap properly?
Thanks,
Erik

I wouldn't get those Monroe quick struts. I installed them on my ES all around, and ended up removing them from the front and putting back my OE struts with over 200k miles. I kept the back on, because they were a tad bit better than my OE struts but still garbage. I replaced the rear 3 times till I got a pair that didn't sound like it was broken when going over bumps. The strut mounts on these suck! Also, they change the ride height. It brings the front end lower, and significantly raises the rear. It doesn't really settle either.

I'm ordering KYB GR-2/Excel-G's for replacement on my 2006 ES330 that has AVS . I am replacing the mounts as well.
1)Is there any reason to replace the coil spring insulators and the front coil spring seats? Thanks!
2) Does anyone sell the KYB Excel-G's fully loaded with springs? I haven't found them. (They do show them for 2006 Camry)
3) Will the 2006 Camry KYB excel-G application work on the 2006 ES330? If so, do they need to be ordered for the 4 or 6 cylinder? They show different part numbers.
Thanks.

1) depends on the condition
2) not that I've seen
3) why not just order for your specific car?

Because they don't offer the KYB Excel-G's fully loaded for the 2006 ES330, but they do offer them for the 2006 Camry 4 and 6 cylinder. I will swap my old springs into the KYB's if needed, but am trying to save the labor time and down time when I do the job.

The ES and Camry V6 suspensions look exactly the same to me, unless someone knows different. The only way to duplicate the ES ride is get the struts from Lexus, the KYB's are much stiffer.

Digging around some more online I found this at A1auto. They show one part number for 2004-2006 for both the Lexus ES 330 and the Toyota Camry. (And the description states that they are for both cars ). They are an off brand which I don't want to buy. I'm thinking I will go to rock auto and buy the KYB excel-G's , complete assembly that they show list for 2006 V6 Camry. Great price also at $120 each for complete assembly. I also looked up the parts (KYB struts without springs and KYB mounts) for both vehicles on RockAuto and they show the same part number as well for both vehicles. They just don't list the KYB excel G assembly for the Lexus ES 330.

You're welcome. I just received my strut assembly's yesterday. I don't have the car here to visually check/compare. I will be doing the job next week, Wed/Thurs. I'll post back up results.

Bringing this thread back to life as I'm going to do this retro suspension mod on my 05 ES330 with AVS
After reading these posts, would anyone happen to know if the following questions have been answered?
* when installing the KYB struts, do you need to change the strut mounts to accommodate the KYB struts?
* has anyone verified that after installing KYBs or other struts if the ABS/traction control system throws any errors? I read here that GSspeed did the swap with no lights lighting up on the dash, but he didn’t mention anything else.
* Suggestions on springs similar to the Camry SE feel/ride height? I’ve had Eibachs on another car and did NOT like them at all.
Thanks, Paul

No. Parts cross-referencing says they are the same and interchangeable. I have them up front on my 2005 ES.

”No lights” pretty much says it all, but you can wait for more definitive answer.

The KYB’s I suggested are naturally going to be stiffer, but I’ve read of no complaints. My 2005 Lexus ES has them up front and I have no complaints.

2005 ES330 with AVS/TEMS Strut replacement
I need to replace rear struts on my 05 ES 330. I’ve been talking with my mechanic on using after market and mentioned your results. Would really appreciate parts number of the replacement parts. And if you can include any other parts and their number you had to use to make it work. Really appreciate it
