Default High idle

Hey guys so I have a 99es 300, I took off the right throttle body and also the ldle air controller underneath it. I cleaned both of them and when I started to put them back together I noticed the little black acctuator that controls the throttle plate to open and close I believe I put that on wrong some how. I remember I had to turn it a little bit to get the metal rod that swings the throttle plate open and closed, to go inside it and then turn it a bit to align back up and screw it in. I'm guessing that might be my problem. But after all that I put it all together started the car and in park and neutral it idles high at about 2k rpm and goes down to about 1k-1,100 rpm in drive and reverse. Sorry for the bad lingo to try and explain this.
Please let me know what I should try or if you know what it is.
Thanks

So the thing I'm talking about is the throttle position sensor, is what I took off and now I'm thinking I did that part right because when I put it back on I checked to make sure the plate was closed and not open. So any other ideas what it could be that's causing it to rev to high in park and neutral which I wouldn't mind but when ever you shift from there it kicks the transmission so not to healthy to keep doing that

Thanks for any input

could you please take picture of the parts your attempting to describe,

the tps sensor does not control, or feature at all in idle control.

a high idle more often than not, is caused by a vacuum leak, or by over tightened throttle cables (which should be quite loose by the way).

Yes, I will be looking at it again either Monday or Tuesday so if I can't seem to find the problem I will take some pics

+1, check your cables, I accidentally twisted mine when I move the assembly out of the way to clean the TB.

I may be wrong but when I replaced the TPS sensor on my sister's 98 camry V6 1MZ-FE there was no adjustment needed like on Hondas, where they need to be calibrated with a multimeter.

I took the throttlebody and iacv off on my 99 to clean when I did my valve cover gasket replacement but had on issue with high idle afterwards or did I notice any binding of the throttle plate. I replaced both the throttlebody gasket and icav gasket.

Yah a pic would be helpful.

So quick update, I tried to start it and noticed coolant was pouring out of the line that was dissconected and didn't put it on all the way.
Would that cause the problem at all or is that just another problem lol

.
no. a coolant leak will never effect the idle. unless there was no coolant what so ever in the engine, in which case it might idle say 50-150rpm higher than usual.

Ok so new problem, put everything back together again and lots of coolant was dumping out from where the throttle body meets the engine, leak is bottom right side. And side note to let you guys know I never took off the left side throttle body.
Car was surging as the rpm dropped the coolant was like a waterfall every time the rpm dropped which is about every 3-5 seconds revs high and then drops down.
such a simple job turns into something terrible haha
I made sure the throttle body gasket was on and right. Is there a gasket between the throttle body and the iac valve? Is there coolant that would come out of that place where the throttle body and the iac valve meet or only where the throttle body meets the engine? Thanks again

YES! there is a o-ring gasket between the throttlebody and IACV. I replaced mine when I removed the throttlebody and IACV.

the IACV is attached by 2 philips screws that are on there pretty tight.

you sure it's not hoses that are cracked?

this is what I bought and replaced:

Yes I'm sure it's not a hose saw where it was pouring out and the first time I did this I took the iac off as well and now that I just pulled it off again I see that the gasket is not so good also some of it got stuck to the other side that it seals with and I'm guessing when I put it back together it didn't make a good seal and leaks from there. So I sanded it by hand just a little bit to get the rubber off and took the seal out of the other side and just gonna replace it. Hopefully that's where it was leaking from. Since the throttle body to engine gasket is metal and looks fine doubt I need to replace that one. I'll check with Lexus or a Napa or something to see if they have one in stock.
With that cause the high idle?

Yes, if that seal is broken or damaged it would constitute a vacuum leak, since unaccounted air is coming into the throttle body.

Here's what I did, when installing the new gasket I coated it with some di-electric grease, di-electric grease is silicone based so it shouldn't damage any rubber. it also helps lubricate the rubber and prevent it from drying.

Cool thanks for the tip, gonna pick up a gasket later today and see how that goes.
So the metal gasket should be ok to re use right as long as it doesn't look bent or damaged? The one for throttle body to engine.

throttle body gasket should be good to re-use a few times, I just chose to replace cause the original is 15 years old and the black coating peeled off. if yours still in good condition it should be fine.
