when we start our lexus and put it in drive to go i got sluggish acceleration and it takes me 30+ seconds to reach around 30-40 mph. sometimes it kicks in and goes or it may feel like the gas has just been shut off for quick periods even with my pedal to the floor it declines in acceleration and jerkes back into acceleration mode. once i can finally make it to 60ish it may stay at steady acceleration until i hit any type of hill there is very little acceleration or power to do so. i also have a strong exhaust smell in the cabin of the car. im not sure if that has to do with it. it almost feels as if there is something closed or clogged that at times opens up but i hope someone can give us some help.

if there is a strong exhaust smell in your car, that is extremely dangerous. Car exhaust fumes act on humans in two ways, firstly, they will put you to sleep. Secondly, they starve you of oxygen. In my country a little girl was travelling in a enclosed ute, there was an exhaust leak, she was found dead at the end of the trip (about an hour).

Take your car to get it's exhaust checked immediately, if you fall asleep at the wheel you might hurt yourself, or others. As it happens that will likely improve your cars performance issue too.
