Default digital odometer says 0 after jumping off, battery issues

97 lexus es300 has had some battery issues in the past month. put new battery terminals on and that fixed the battery dying for a few weeks, now it does is again, i jump off starts fine for week then dies again, im sure its a drain on the battery somewhere but not sure where.

yesterday when i jumped off the car the odometer is on all 0 on trips and milage, i drive the car back home and it says 5 miles now.
so today i disconnected the battery to see if that would reset the computer but it says 0 again on milage and trips. does it take a few miles for the computer to reset itself?
the backlight still works or i couldnt read it so i know its not the light.

the speedometer still works and the rest of the dash still works just the odomoter resetting it self

ok i drove the car around and now i have 13 miles lol, the check engine light was on before i had to jump it yesterday and had it tested before all of this happened and it was evac code.
but now the check engine light is not on and the odometer is like a brand new car with 13 miles lol

just took the car to advance and the tested the alternator and it failed on all levels on there test, so maybe the alternator is causing the issues?

now i cut the car off and on and it says 0 again, i guess this is an alternator causing the battery issues

You sure you didn't press the button that cycles between the trip and odometer view?

Well that's unlikely.

assuming you're not mistaking trip meters for the mileage reading,

what seems to have happened is the chip which stores the milage is damaged and no longer holding the milage, I bet the constant power leg is fired or the battery which supplies power to that chip is damaged. Basically, I'm guessing there was a power surge or short, and it's damaged the dash (where that chip is).

You would need to replace your gauge cluster to resolve this , (guessing again).

I'm fairly sure it's not the ecu which is damaged.

no im not a total idiot lmao

the mileage did come back after driving again but then after turning the car off then on the mileage is 0 again
well have to see tomorrow if the alternator fixes the battery issue after it gets rebuilt which i figure it will but like you say es300nz it may be the cluster itself going out, i have never liked digital dash, it wont get replaced for sure it can say 0 forever wont hurt my feelings just be hell to resell is all.

Instrument clusters are cheap, especially the ones with higher mileage. If you sell it later you can swap out the cluster for another one. I just saw one with 230k on it for $65 shipped.

pretty odd issue, kinda funny actually, .. it won't be that hard to resell, just note the mileage when it died and refit any old cluster, or don't, .. it's a used car, .. people do expect issues.

Send the cluster to us, we can restore the correct mileage.

hey that's an awesome offer,

I'd be really grateful if TaninAuto would explain a bit more about how/what the issue is/ etc, .. just my idle curiosity.

Don't know. Somehow the memory chip got wiped in the cluster from the power issue/surge. Surprised the cluster still works fine aside from the mileage.

Odometer correction is 89.99 plus shipping if interested.
