Question Replace cigarette lighter housing 2002 Lexus ES 300

My wife's cigarette lighter housing (there is no lighter in it) has been pulled out of it's casing and we have tried everything to get it back in. It just hangs out connected by the wires.
Even the guys at our local garage couldn't figure it out. Seems simple but no one can get it back in. Is there a trick to it?
Any ideas. It also doesn't charge anything plugged into it but hopefully that is probably a fuse issue which I haven't checked yet.
Thanks in advance.

Hmm, could you post a picture so I can better understand how it looks?

If you mean the actual cigarette lighter was pulled out, then i have somewhat the same issue, where when i unplug something from my cigarette lighter the metal cylinder tries to come with it.

in which case you could run to the auto parts store and purchase something like this to replace it.

That is saying that the unit does not funcion and it isn't just a 'square goes in square, triangle goes in triangle' sort of thing.

Thanks to a13n0rma1 I believe his guide in this posting

Might be of some assistance.

Of course it would be easier to find the problem and work on it with the unit pulled out of the car, and since it is only a 2-5 minute job to pull it out, Why not?

Obviously pictures would still help, so post some whenever you have a chance!

If you want to remove the console piece to have a better look at the cig light assembly on a 4ES you have to:

1. Put the car in neutral (Make sure ebrake is on!)
2. Unscrew and remove the shift ****
3. Carefully pop off the center piece from the back (near the cupholder assembly)
4. Then the front two clips you tilt the console upward and out.

I saw on that 3ES write up you pry off the wood grain piece and that is definitely what you DO NOT do with ours haha yikes.

That guide is for 97-01, would it still be viable to try on an '02?

Default Lighter

I was hoping to fix this without removing the console as I'm not great with stuff like that (and my wife would have a fit if she saw me prying it open). It looks so simple to fix. You would think if it came out that easily it must just push right back in but as I said before several people have tried. And failed.
Maybe pulling out the console is the only way?

Oh, mine has done that before. Just squeeze the sides and pop it back in. Don't do a twisting motion because there is a wire point on the bottom.

This one is really only designed for the cigarrette lighter assembly. From my experience it can't withstand a constant in/out device like a charger or gps. I suggest you use the socket inside the glove box if you can.

This is the problem. We have tried every way possible to get this back in, including squeezing the sides and it won't pop back in.
