My 01' ES300 had its alternator break on my way to work and I was able to run it on the battery for a few hundred feet and put it in park. The battery was shot when I tried to tow it so I jumped it for 2 seconds to get it into neutral so we could tow it.

I just put a new alternator belt on it and battery has been tested/charged. Now when I try and jump the car it will not even turn over. The interior lights are on in the car so I know it's getting juice.

What's weird is that when I put in the key and the door is open it only makes the beeping sound for like a split second and all the interior lights go off (like it is preventing the battery from doing its thing).

So why would the car jump fine with no alternator cable and not even turn over when I put a new one on? Is there something with the computer preventing it from turning over now that I jumped it without the alternator cable? Thanks for reading and your time.

It probably has nothing to do with the alternator belt. Just a coincidence.

How are you jumping the car? You may not be making good connection.

Also check the battery terminal cables. They may be loose.

First thing is clean the battery cables and battery terminals with the tool designed for the job. Don't assume they are clean, if you see corrosion use baking soda and water. If you suspect the security system has been triggered then lock and unlock the drivers door using the key.

The battery itself might also be bad and/or dead.

Start with the very basic.

With the engine off, what's your battery voltage at the posts?

you can't just 'jump start a car with a dead battery". You need to give the jumping car enough connection time to get the battery voltage up over 10 volts, and generally recover. That can be easy 5-10mins sometimes.

Just cos you bought 'thick' jumper cables doesn't mean they are fit for the job, often times the wire inside is basically speaker wire kinda thin, with no hope of ever actually jumping a car or passing anything more than perhaps 15amps,

A new battery has enough power to start the car, with or without alternator.

Is the starter working correctly? They last a long time but not forever either.
