Default ES 330 evaporator core $1300!!! YIKES!

No AC. Anyone had this replaced? Only 69k miles on my car. I am in shock. No fun owning a Lexus with no AC. Any advice or info on this part would be appreciated. They say they have to remove the entire dash to get to it.

I didn't realize they sold Lexus' without ACs. In fact I haven't seen a single car made after 1990 without an AC.

Either way. Yea, I have no personal experience with this, but $1300 seems somewhat reasonable. Just from a quick google, it looks like a pretty labor intensive job, and the parts don't look too cheap either. I'm taking it you wouldn't have a compressor or anything either, and those aren't particularly cheap.

Wow, are they sure it's leaking? It is possible, but typically the evaporator core is not a common place for a leak. Maybe a second opinion?

+1.

How did they diagnose and confirm the source of the leak?

This is not typical of Lexus cars, and is extremely uncommon.

Omg. Ignore what I said. I feel like such an idiot now. I thought you meant your car didn't have an AC at all, not that it was broken!

You are right I should get a second opinion to see if they are correct. They put dye in the system and recharged it. It only lasted 2 weeks and now no cold air at all. They said there was no hose leaks etc. And claim they used a sniffer in the drain pipe to locate the leak in the evap core? That is all I know about it. I should have it checked somewhere else just to make sure.

QWERTY321 Thanks for trying to help. I do have ac just have a leak somewhere and losing all my Freon. If I learn anything new I will post here to let you all know. Its a good running car with low mileage. I bout it when it was 30 degrees. I tuned on the AC and cold air came out lol. The other bad part is I just installed a real nice pioneer stereo myself. And of course they would have to remove it to replace the core. Murphys law I guess.

jryan19 - Did you end up getting this fixed? My a/c went out recently and my mechanic told me he believes its the evaporator. He stated around $900 to fix.....

I bought my 03 ES as a cheap DD and its quickly turning out to be a lemon.

Leather was also an option, I have seen a few es300 with cloth interior.

Maybe try finding a mechanic who can do this job in his garage at home. It will be way cheaper than just to have it done at the shop.
