Default Question for you all?

I have a imzfe on my Es and on my camry...What is the idle rpm's on your ES's? On my camry i'm at 800's, on my Es i'm closer to 900's (camry's got 65K miles, and Es has got 94K miles)....Is that a bit high for the ES? Keep in mind that I do allow time to warm up the engine..and the increased RPM's are not initial warmups, but at idle? Thanks

On my '96 ES, at normal idle, I usually see 750 RPM, but on cold starts, the number can be as high as 1750 RPM. I've been told that there should be no cause for concern with this high idle RPM. Of course, once I get going, and after the engine warms up to normal temp, the idle RPM drops back to normal.

When it comes to warming up my car during the cold starts, I usually let the engine run for 2-3 minutes. It's generally not a good idea to run your car at idle for a long time; it's considered bad for the fuel economy and all that. Your engine almost quickly warms up once you drive out.

if the scale on the tach is accurate, at warm idle I am also at 750.
I have not put a strobe on it nor have I seen the reading from a scan tool in the service bay so for now, I will trust that the tach is accurate enough.

On cold starts, I'm around 2000.

After:

1 min....1500-1750
2 min....1350
3min.....1200
4+ quickly drops down to about 750-800 and AUTO temp control starts blowing warm air

edit:

Commensically, I guess the way in which we "view" the gauge has discrepencies. What would like like 750 may appear to be 900 to somebody else. There is no sure-fire answer just by eye-balling.

I think you have a SOLID point....I'll recheck again....I do belive that idle at both my 1mz's is around higher 800 lower 900's...(no i wasn't taking about initial warmup). Thanks all.
