Default Intermittent Pending P1133 after replacing OCV

After rough idle, some bucking, bank 2 misfires, and a CEL error that indicated bank 2 OCV, I replaced the bank 2 OCV. Problem went away for several weeks.

Problem returned.

Then I checked the bank 2 OCV filter. It appeared clogged. Cleaned it. Also disconnected the battery for 30 minutes to reset the ECU.

Now I'm getting a pending intermittent P1133 and VSC/VSC-OFF illuminated. P1133 is Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor Circuit Response Malfunction Bank 1 Sensor 1. Bank 1 sensor 1 was replaced about 40K miles and about 4 years ago. Note: the CEL does not come on. Turning the engine off and then on resets the pending P1133 and the VSC/VSC-OFF lights.

Is it possible the P1133 is somehow related to the OCV and filter problem? Or is it just a coincidence that they are occurring so close together? Suggestions are how to proceed to correct the pending P1133.

Sounds like a coincidence. Do you remember what type of sensor was used?

Yes. It was Denso 234-9007.

I'm skeptical that the problem is a bad sensor. But who knows. Maybe I'll just replace it to eliminate that possibility.

Additional symptom: Intermittent bucking at moderate speeds.

It's not necessarily the sensor. The sensor could be fine, but there could be a break in the wiring.

I agree. Probably a pain to track the break down.

If you have a multimeter and some patience, it should be pretty simple.

Just an update. The insulation on the wires from the sensor to the connector was shredded. So I replaced the sensor. I'm not sure if this solved the problem because now I'm getting a P1346. That error relates to the VVT sensor, bank one. Also getting random misfires on bank one. I'll replace the VVT solenoid and clean the screen/filter on bank one, once I get the new VVT solenoid for bank one.

Final update: Just finished replacing the bank 1 oil control valve and cleaning its filter. This appears to solved all my problems.

Just to reiterate:

1) Received P1351 Lexus - Variable Valve Timing Sensor Range/Performance Problem Bank 2.
  • Solved by replacing the bank 2 OCV and cleaning its filter.
2) Shortly thereafter received intermittent P1133 Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor Circuit Response Malfunction Bank 1 Sensor 1.
  • Inspected the wires from the sensor to the connector. The insulation on the wires was shredded. Probably causing a short.
  • Solved by replacing the Bank one sensor one Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor because there was not enough usable wire to splice new wire.
3) Simultaneously received P1346 VVT sensor/camshaft position sensor/ Circuit range performance problem bank one. Also had random misfires on bank one.
  • a. solved by replacing the bank one OCV and cleaning its filter.

So it appears I had three different problems that occurred nearly simultaneously.

Mr Booby, Thanks for being a sounding board.

Which brand OCVs did you use? I have been having similar problems but it may seem that the new duralast OCVs do not work well with the ES300.
