Default A Few Air Conditioner Pushbutton Lights Not Illuminated (Mostly Text Lights)

Hi. First post on the forum...

I've got a 2005 ES330 that I'm getting ready to take over from a family member. 102,000 miles, very well maintained.

I just became aware that several of the air conditioner pushbutton lights (those that illuminate the text and some graphics symbols on the pushbuttons) do not seem to be lighting up. I noticed this during my first night ride in the vehicle, so the lack of those lighted text labels was pretty obvious by absence.

For instance, the A/C, AUTO, PASSENGER TEMP, and passenger seat heat/air control do not seem to be lighting. The green "on" indicator lights for the A/C and AUTO work just fine, but not the text illumination. Also, the OFF button is only dimly lit (but lit).

I have attached a pic with the non-working lights circled in red.

Any ideas for a fix? Are these just small bulbs that possibly need replacing or perhaps a short that could be affecting several of the lights simultaneously? Other explanations?

Apologies for not knowing exactly where to post this question. I know it could apply to many vehicles besides the ES330, but I figured this was one place to start.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice/opinions!

Al

Welcome to Club Lexus!

Follow this DIY for a fix: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es3...placement.html

I forgot to update the thread, but I found a set of bulbs that work. I will update the thread now with details.

I suggest replacing all the bulbs at one time, I killed 3 bulbs just removing and reinstalling the unit a couple of times to test out different bulb colors.

Hey, thanks a bunch hypervish! (For both the welcome to the forum and the link... )

Great thread you originally posted (DIY: 4ES Climate Control Bulb Replacement), and thanks for updating the info on the bulbs there.

Very helpful indeed!

Hi, I'm a newbie to the forum and a new Lexus owner, well used Lexus. It's a 2005 ES with 130k. It's in pretty good shape inside and out and runs great. I've been trying to find info on replacing the bulbs for the climate control panel. The dealer quoted $1400 saying they would replace the entire panel. I didn't ask any questions about why they couldn't replace the bad bulbs. Is there a difference between the ES300 and the ES330 models as far as these units and ability to replace the bulbs?

Any help would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has or knows of tutorials on accessing the panel/bulbs that would be great. From what I've been able to find it doesn't seem it would be too difficult to do.

Is there any post that is more updated or has video/pics showing how to do this?

Thanks,

It's the same as the above link shows you...

Not sure why you'd need more pics, as there's plenty in that thread already, step by step.

It's pretty effortless to be honest... I redid all of mine [in a 3ES] before any tutorials were around, simply by digging around the car and tearing it apart.

Changed 4 bulbs for $12 and all I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver and 30 minutes. Very simple

Thanks for the replies. Looking forward to doing this. It looks like from the link above it's not required to remove the center console. Is this correct? Did you buy the bulbs from Lexus?

Thanks
