Default Largest wheel size on an ES 300

Hello everyone I am new to the board and just found it. I am looking for what people have on the es300 as far as wheels go. I am looking to put 18 x 8.5 some sites show it will work others say 18 x 8 is the largest. I dont have any modifications and dont want to make any. I can get a good deal on some 18 x 8.5 that is why I am asking. I have a 94 es 300 .

thanks

chuck

i'm pretty sure 18x8.5 will rub... and even more with anyone/anything in the rear/trunk.
best stick with 18x8 as the widest.

With the correct offsets 18x8.5 may fit. You can always under size the tire by one size so the tires will not rub. I have 19x10's in the rear of my LS +38 offset, but with a +37-+35 I think I can fit a 10.5 in the back.

But if you want to be safe just go with a 8.0 width. You may also trying posting a thread in the Wheels and Tires forum, you might get more replies there from one of our wheel gurus.

BTW Chuck welcome to Clublexus and enjoy your stay.

18x8.5 would be a real tight fit, offset would be very, very critical. You'll probably have a tough time with anything wider than 225 tires, and 225 tires are a better fit on an 8 inch wide wheel, they'd be stretched a little on a 8.5. I have 18x8 wheels with 225/40 tires on mine and they are a tight fit, there's some very slight rubbing on bumps and hard turns when the backs weighed down; and there's not much clearance between the back of the wheel and the suspension. I personally wouldn't want to try and fit anything wider than those, it'd be pretty risky. On a side note, not sure if you were planning this, but please lower the car if you're putting on wheels, it'll look pretty bad without being dropped.

Welcome to CL, hope we can help with any questions and you enjoy your time here.

Hi Chuck!

Welcome to the forums. 18x8 is already pushing it. You will rub in the rear with that combo if you go with a 225/40R18 or 235/40R18 tire. 18x8.5, you can forget about that idea. Remember to stick with an offset between +40 to +45. Anything smaller or greater than that range, you will run into strut clearance and of course fender lip clearance. Are you planning to lower it? If so, it's necessary to shave/roll the rear fender lip...especially if you carry passengers once in a while.

I've seen 20's on a ES300 before. It was the 92-96 models. Don't know how well it worked for him and can't remember what size tires he was running. But you CAN go with 19's. 19x7.5 with a 40mm backspacing. YOu have to have smaller tires of course. Maybe 35 series. But they WILL fit, and as long as the tire size is small enough you may no have any problems. Maybe if any, the common rubbing in the rear. I believe the 97-up share the same rim fitment with the 92-96's. check this out....http://www.auto-couture.com/catalog/lexus/es300/

Default es 300 wheels

Thanks for everyones feed back Does everyone feel they rub due to be 18 or to the width or a combination of both. if I have to go out and find wheel I am feeling I should look for 18 x 7.5 so I wont have have any rub but I may need to go to 17" which I dont want to do.

thanks

I think it's mainly due to the width of the actual rim, not the diameter.

offset then width is critical
as read earlier people with 225/40 18 rub mine thank goodness don't rub at all front or back
that is with weight in back so it is critical of offset as i know people with 17's that rub bad enough to eat the edge of the tire
if you are running into rub problems remove some of the inner lip to help eleviate this i know one person with 17 inch arelli assasins and this helped

good luck i would love to have 19's as the front could take em easily just i don't know many companies that make 19 by anything width wiase smaller than 8.5

i've got 125/140/18 on my 92 ES. the rims are 18 x 7.5 and they STILL rub in the back whenever i take sharp turns or have people riding in the back

Wow, can you say major run-on sentence? It would be nice to see punctuations, your last few posts have been difficult to read.

On that note since we've managed to go a little off topic...18x7.5 would be the optimal size on a +40 to +42 offset. A 225/40R18 tire will sit square on a 18x.7.5" rim (square meaning sidewall almost perpendicular to the tread).
