Default Tutorial ( pics ) How to : Remove HVAC blower/fan 1999 ES300

So I spent a portion of my day going through the repair manual and finding out how to remove the HVAC Blower so I could clean it.

Not to long ago i replaced my cabin filter and considering that the filter was dirty I decided to clean the HVAC blower.

Note : Sorry about some of the quality of the photos, In some photos I wasn't able to get everything in one shot.

Step 1 : Remove the Door trim and glove box.

Behind the door trim you will find a 10mm bolt which will need to be removed to completely remove the glove box.

Step 2 : Once the glove box has been removed it will reveal a wiring harness with 2 screws ( Phillips ) which must be undone. Once the screws have been undone , pull the wiring harness away from the engine sure not to damage any wiring ( to gain access the HVAC screws )

Step 3 : There are 3 screws which secure the HVAC blower in place. Firstly remove the cable which powers the unit then remove those screws while making sure that you support the HVAC blower as it will drop to the floor if you don't.

Step 4 : In my case, I decided to clean it. This is where you can replace it if the unit is faulty.

After cleaning it with q-tips, air compressor and a pipe cleaner.. ( note : some areas were almost impossible to clean )

Step 5 : Follow everything in reverse order to put it back together !

It had a damp smell.
After changing the cabin filter and cleaning the HVAC blower I've noticed it doesn't have any smell with heating/cooling anymore, and it runs the slightest bit quieter. There was a lot of dust buildup under the white blades.

Thanks for this DIY. I used it to check the blower when the blower stopped working. (The blower worked when I put 12 volts to it. Then it worked when I put it back in. Thankfully.)
