Default Driver's door won't open from outside

My '00 ES 300 suddenly will not open from the outside door handle. The inside handle, power locks and keyless entry work fine, but the outside door handle feels like it extends upward much more than the other three doors. I can only open the door from the inside. Clearly, something is wrong with the outer handle. I also noticed when I lowered and raised the window, I heard a clicking/popping sound. Anyone else had this happen before? I have the shop manual and I'm going to disassemble the door panel tomorrow... Anything specific I should be looking for? Thanks in advance

Most likely the rod came off the door handle or a door handle piece broke off..... Should be a EZ Fix.
Pull the interior door panel off and look inside the door at the door handle..... You will what is happening.

This little part turned out to be the problem. The plastic got old and brittle and snapped. Picked it up for $3.07 at the Toyota delaership. It's in kind of a tight area to access and involved taking the door panel apart, but it sure beats paying the Lexus dealership $150 to do it!

Well I haven't done this by myself for once because i always hire the locksmith for repairing the car door locks. How much time it will take to repair the door handle locks because i think i should try repair this by own . .

Do you know the part number - the manual door button near the handle on my 2003 es300 is not working - did your not work either?

The outside handle works, but the inside handle does not unlock the door when pulled.

did you have to remove the window to get to that-i couldn't do it without taking out the door glass!

No but you have to take the handle out of the door skin and remove that rod connector from the outside of the vehicle.

Go to a body shop to get an inspection/quote. Something similar happened to me about 6 months in after buying my ES in Caviar 3 years ago on the rear passenger door. The body shop (called Fix Auto ; pretty known chain where I live) was able to repair it and you can't even tell it was hit. I was incredibly surprised by the result and how they managed to do it (even when you try to inspect it with the light reflection, you couldn't tell). I paid around 600$ CAD.
