Installing aftermarket head...wiring harness?
Hello all,
big lurker of the forums now that I purchased a great condition 2001 ES300 with low miles. Wanted to splurge a bit so got the Pioneer 200BT touchscreen stereo so I can use my iPhone.
My question is, can I use a Toyota wiring harness kit or do I have to hire someone to cut into the factory wires? I'm relatively new to cars and absolutely new to electrician work.
I'd rather install every mod myself but I'm not comfortable with cutting and soldering wires. Also, any reason the turn signals don't work when the head, climate control and clock are disconnected? Just wondering.
Anyway, if anyone has any experience with this on 97-2001 ES300 cars that would be great. I've searched the forums but posts are 6+ years old on the issue and confusing to someone who doesn't know much about electrical work.

You want the Metra 70-8112 or an equivalent. These cars have an outboard amp behind the glovebox, so you need to adapt to that, the harness will have 2 sets of RCAs you plug into the F/R pre-outs on the aftermarket radio. You'll need to solder/connect or have someone else solder the harness together with the aftermarket Pioneer harness off the car, but with that done you will be able to plug in and work straight away and not have to cut any wires on the car.
