Default EGR valve

Anyone know where the EGR valve is located on a 2001 es300? I would like to clean it. What's involved in removing and cleaning it?

Thanks

If I remember correctly, for my 97 ES300, the EGR position sensor is right on the top of the engine. I believe the valve should be right there.

Check your emissions label under hood. You probably don't have one on that 01.

I do have the label, and it does show an EGR system, but does not give locations.

ALlDATA, to which I subscribe, is of no help in this case either.

Some 2001 es300 dont have EGR. If you do it should be on the throttle body.

That's strange that some 2001 es300s would not have an EGR valve and some would. I'll look into it.

Thanks

Contrary to my reply, I checked my emission label again and there is no mention of an EGR valve. So no wonder that I can't find one.

Can someone please confrm if the 2001 es300 has an EGR valve or not.

I was planning on cleaning it, as preventive maintenance, but if there isn't one than I guess there is nothing to clean.

Thanks

I looked it up on TIS and couldn't find a single document for the 2001 ES 300 regarding EGR valve. Thats as close as I can say to there being to EGR on your car. I haven't been under the hood of an 01 so I can't say from personal experience or knowledge.

If you could post some pictures of your engine bay, particularly intake/egr area we could tell you if you have one or not.

The VVT-i can close the exhaust valves early leaving behind some exhaust gasses. Acting as an EGR.

That's my problem. I don't know where to take the picture, as I have no idea where the EGR would be (if I had one)

You may be totally correct, however I am trying to wrap my head around as to how that would replace the function of the EGR.

The EGR 's job is to reduce NOx. Exhaust gasses mixed in with the fresh air/fuel mixture lowers combustion temperatures. High temps = more NOx. So by the system being able to control the valves, it can simply close the valves early. Leaving behind some exhaust gasses to recirculate.

That makes sense, and seems like an elegant solution.

Thanks
