Belt Issues-2000 Lexus 300 ES
My car is 2000 300 es with about 69,000 miles on it. Just inherited from my mother who did not take care of it. I doubt any belts have ever been replaced.
Recently the car started to squeal during after ignition. I would rev the gas a little and then it would stop in about 30 seconds or so.
Yesterday when I started the car there was no squeal. I popped the hood and just to the right of the coolant reservoir a piece of belt seemed to be exposed and popped up. I think it may be a rib of a belt that is probably 5 times as wide normally?
Any ideas as to which belt this is? How many belts are there? I keep hearing the names "timing belt","serpentine belt","powersteering belt",etc.
I am not car savvy and money is an issue these days. The car is probably worth around $5000 as is. Not sure it is worth putting a lot of money into.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is looking for auto repair help on craigs list advisable for a car not worth much? I'm not taking it to Lexus.lol.
thanks very much,
Dan

There are three belts. Alternator and a/c compressor belt (1). Power steering belt (2). Those you can see. Like $13 each belt and 30 minutes to put on. Piece of cake. The timing belt you can't see, it's under the black plastic cover just above the other two belts. That one is a different story.

One day later I turned my car on and within moments of driving out my garage the car started to light up. The battery light first, and then the power started to dim. THen the ABS/tracking lights came on,etc.
Does this mean the serpentine belt which drives the alternator,a/c,etc. has failed totally and my car cannot generate electricity?
Guess I'll need a tow to a garage or mechanic.
Any more replies would be very helpful. Thanks for the replies already sent.
Booby, I noticed the engine in the video is a 3.3l and I have a 3.0l. Does this make a difference?

The video is of my ES330 with the 3.3L V6. I used the same procedure on my 1MZ-FE 3.0L Solara which has the same engine as the Lexus ES300.
You can change the belt yourself on your driveway with hand tools, no need to tow to a garage.
