99 es 300 tranny slip
Good evening all! My daughter's 99 es300 began slipping today. Engine revs and all power is lost. Will not go into reverse or any forward gear. Odd thing is, if the engine is turned off for a few seconds the car often seems ok for a short time (1/2 mile or so) with all gears working, including reverse- then begins slipping again. Thoughts?

Not to offend, but is the fluid at the correct level? If so It may be too late but try replacing the filter and pan gasket. Also make sure the kick down cable is intact. The fact that it seems to work briefly could be any of these things. After all, dead transmissions usually stay dead.

take it to a shop with a GOOD scanner.
If it is a faulty transmission it will show which solenoids are to blame.
I had this happen, where it would not go into reverse but no codes. Went to see my mech. he flashed the car with his scanner and it was good again. Deduced it to an ecm error.
This past summer, I lost all gears one by one driving home from the shop, my trans was shot. Wouldn't pop out of first gear...
Three out of six solenoids were done for. Had a new 'used' trans put in instead.
