Default 99 ES 300 Transmission swap

Hello I'm new to the forum but I could really use some help getting my girl's ES 300 fixed. She's been taking on business trips and put about 50,000 hard miles on it last year with out changing the ATF or filter......I know...

Its now got the TRAC and Check Engine lights on, and the transmission won't upshift into overdrive at highway speed, but it does still shift 1st-3rd. I had my tech look at it and indeed 4th gear is fried, so I'm looking to swap in another A541E auto transmission.

My question is do I need to be particularly wary of sensors and other electrical gremlins for a job like this? My tech is telling me that a good transmission will cause the lights to shut off, but another has mentioned that there were several changes made to the ES300 midway thru the model year, which can really screw with the computer if mismatched. parts are thrown on.

Any thoughts? particular transmissions to avoid? I'd certainly appreciate it!

Could be a realay, or a sensor, or something else external o the transmision. You should get a second opinion before getting another transmission

An obd2 scanner that is capable of retrieving transmission codes is mandatory.

Could be a shift solenoid.

It could be a knock sensor, I had the same problem when mine went out.
