I appreciate the help. I had a buddy that is a Toyota mechanic look up the code and he told me about the VVT solenoids. That part you show is only $20 so I may change it 1st before the other ones that are $60. I have also noticed the water temp gauge barely getting 1/4 way up the last few times I have driven it.

I'm in SE Greensboro.

It might just solve your problem. I removed both of the oil control valves and tested them. In my case they were both working fine. It sounds like you may have a thermostat going bad as well. I might change the coolant temperature sensor first, and if the gauge still reads low, you might need to replace the thermostat. I had to replace mine at about 160k mi. I'm in NW quilford county.

I replaced the ECTS and removed and cleaned the VVT solenoids and filters. The solenoids tested fine and I got them to fire when jumped to a 12v source. They were very dirty and both filters were what I would call stopped up. After reinstalling everything the code is gone and the car has yet to surge when operating between 1500 - 2500 rpms as it would before. It has just over 205,000 miles and even though I change oil every 3000 miles, and have since I bought it with a little over 100,000 on it, the oil passages were sludge free.

It is due for a timing belt so I will do that in the next few weeks as well as replace the thermostat.
