Default transmission whinning when shifting

my 2000 es300 has a rebuilt tranny and it started whining when shifting into 2nd gear, the tranny had 40,000 miles on it so i changed the fluid and filter with all dealership parts and toyota fluid and it stopped whining and was working well. Now it has 52,000 miles on it and it started again. If anyone has any ideas what could be wrong or if they've had the same problem, can you please let met know.

You shouldn't have waited to change the ATF till 40k miles.

Who rebuilt the transmission? Any warranty? If not, do another drain and fill.

Rebuilt transmissions depending on the quality of the rebuild, do not last very long. If rebuilt well in a clean environment with someone who knows what they are doing it can last as long the original transmission if not longer. However if rebuilt in subpar conditions, they tend to suffer the same fate as the original.

That's the sound I had coming out of mine for almost a year... One day, won't shift out of 1st... A new (used) transmission later and the car was on the road.

It's easy to deduce that it is a sign of failing componenets in the transmission that will get even worse down the road... In my case it was the solenoids that stopped functioning altogether except for gear 1, and reverse...

Hypervish i didn't change it sooner because i bought the car about 2&1/2 yrs ago and the guy who sold it to me owns a tranny shop and it didn't cross my mind to ask him when i need to change the fluid and he didn't mention anything either , it had no manual and i had no idea when to change the fluid until i started hearing that whining noise. do you know anyone who's had the same problem. im going to change it again. do i need to drop the pan again or just drain the fluid and refill.

Fist thing is make sure it's level and its not over or underfilled. You do know how to check it right?
Check if it smells burnt and is brownish, it should be pink/reddish color.

mitmaks , is the correct way by checking it with the car warmed up and engine running with it on level ground . if that is the right way then i did it right and it was pink reddish in color when i drained it and its still looks good after i changed it .

Oh, the transmission was already rebuilt when you bought the car?

I suggest just doing a drain and fill, no reason to mess with the filter.

yes, he had finished rebuilding the tranny and was selling the car and if i do another drain and refill it i hope it'll stop. do you know what it is in the tranny thats making the whining noise and you think i should take it back to the tranny shop where i got it from .
