Default Sound System

I just bought a 2000 es300. I've been driving a 97 Buick Lesabre Limited with a good sounding stock audio system. The es's stock system sounds horrible compared to the Lesabre. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make es better?

I can only presume something is wrong with yours as my stock system is leagues better than a 97 LeSabre regardless of what options it had. That being said, the first thing you can do is replace the speakers. The front speakers are two way but they use a simple capacitor for the crossover so full range to the 5.25" door speakers - makes for muddy sound. Get a real two-way component set. The rear door speakers are a simple full-range speaker - replace with coax speakers. I used Boston Acoustic... made a world of difference even with the stock amps.

I have 1(6.5) front speaker in my es - 2 tweeters

and 1 rear (6.5) speaker

and 1 (8) subwoofer

I think my configuration is different than yours?

No, same. You should have 2x 5.25" door speakers and 2 tweeters in front doors, 2x 6.5" single cone door speakers in rear. 8" sub in deck. The front door speakers have a simple capacitor crossover which means full range to 5.25" door and high freq to tweeters. 6.5" will fit in front but not without a little work. Will be worth it. Any good quality component set will have full inductive-capacitive 2-way crossovers which will make the sound much cleaner especially in the mid-range. Good quality coaxs in the rear will give a much cleaner high end. Depending on the type and volume you listen to the stock amps and sub will either be okay or too weak.

well thats weird mdbrown....I have a 1997 Lexus ES300 and I just purchased all my needed car audio equipment....

When installing the speakers in the doors I have the following.(i dont think there is a diff between 97-01 es300 speaker sizes).

Front Doors: 6.5"...I easily fit 6.75" speakers with zero modifications.
Rear Doors:6.5"
Factory Sub:8"....oh how ****ty.

OP, if you have the money you should definately look into Hertz, Morel, and Image Dynamic car audio.

....oh and the sub....instead of replacing the stock 8 inch just unplug the sub and put a new sub(s) in an enclosure in the trunk.
