Default New to CL

Hey everyone, I've spent the past week scouring this forum. Today the sale was final on my 92 ES300. Before this I had an 03 Mitsubishi Eclipse, so this will be a very big change. I was wondering what you guys thought about my idea for a new paint job. I really like the two-tone aspect of the car so I would like to keep that but shy away from the traditional ones I've seen. I was thinking a blue upper and matte black for the bumpers/skirts? any suggestions... definitely need something other than this forest green. I'm also planning to do this paint job myself (with help from a friend) so I'll definitely keep you posted

Here's what the car looks like now, tomorrow I will begin some easy mods
clear corner headlights
smoked taillights
and a WELL-NEEDED cleaning

Welcome to Club Lexus!
Your paint job concept is definitely something I have yet to see. Before taking the leap, perhaps you can photoshop it and see how you'll like it? Other than that, I like the dark green color. The paint seems to be in mint condition (from what I can see), so why not enjoy it a little?

Thanks! I'm glad to have found this, everything has been very helpful. That's a very good idea, I'm sure I'll keep the paint for a year or so... adding other mods in the meantime ... but I think it would look good like that and if I end up not liking it I've seen a lot of Blacked Out E2s on here that look great so I could just do that

Welcome to the forum!

It's expensive to paint your car, even yourself. Thought about going this route for a while. You can look into Plastidip for a cheap way to transform your car, but you lose the reflectivity of paint (even with "glossifier").

I would invest in a rotary buffer. I bought a Porter Cable random orbital first for around 120, but that shakes intensely and is a massive pain in the *** to use. I returned it for a Makita orbital which is a superior product and much smoother. I used Meguiars 105 and 205 and PlastX to restore the paint and fog lights (replaced / upgraded headlights and taillights).

Buy the PlastX first though, that's very cheap and you can even apply it with a towel.

Also you can replace the standard bulbs in your tails with LEDs.

I see you seem to have 2 stickers in your vision there too. I would get some Goo Gone or citrus solvent and remove them or move them to the passenger side.

here is a very bad and quick depiction of the paint job I want to do on my car, maybe a bit of a darker blue but you get the idea. I think it will look really good especially since my tints are darker than that and I'll have smoked tails and black rims... let me know what you think

Why photoshop on a 3ES when you have the 2ES? Anyhow, I'm not feeling this idea if it's up to me.
+1 on the plasti dip route, as I have my whole car in matte black. If you don't like it, you can easily peel it.

I would get some upgraded wheels and tires first.
I've seen cars where the hood, roof, and trunk lid are a different color than the body and it can look alright, but it still looked somewhat mismatched.

I just saw your car and I'm definitely considering matte black all around now, it looks really good. Especially with the white rims
