Default Changing the transmission fluid in my '05 Es330...

I'm changing my transmission flud in my 2005 Es330. Just a drain and fill. I bought 4 quarts of T-IV, will this be enough? Does this transmission have a changable filter?

The lexus dealership told me that I don't drain the front diff and that it only takes gear oil. I think otherwise, considering I always drained the front diff in my '97 Es300. Can someone confirm this?

Also, I want to take off the plastic strips on my wheel wells to prevent rust. Is this a good idea?:

Thanks

I changed my transmission fluid about a month ago and all I did was unscrew the drain plug on the bottom of the pan and let it train. My transmission friend said that it hold about 3.8qts but if you put the full 4 in that it wont hurt anything. There is no filter.

Oops, my bad. I called my friend who owns a transmission shop and he said that there really is no point to change the filter unless your fluid has a lot of deposits in it.

Its up to you if you want to change it or not. I didnt change mine and mine is shifting fine.

They might be right. The 4ES has a different transaxle, so maybe the differential is separated.

If you plan to change the filter, be aware there is a gasket on the pan, you should get a new one at the same time, as well as a gasket/washer for the drain plug.

There is also a pair of magnets in the bottom of the pan, be sure to clean those off.

Hey thanks for the feedback, everyone. It's a religious habit for me to change all the fluids/filters on a new car.

She ate about 3.8qts, and looked around for a diff plug just to make sure. Is there any way I can change the diff fluid without disassembling it? IF SO, what kind of fluid should I use?

I plan on changing the filter after a few fluid changes. Should I go with a filter or screen?

Also, what are the torque specs for the tranny pan?

Thank you

You drained the front diff fluid when you pulled the trans drain plug. They are interconnected, which is why they call it a transaxle, opposed to calling it a transmission.

The earlier A541E/U140E transmissions had a separate drain plug for the front diff, but that is no longer the case with the U151E.

The torque spec for the tranny pan is 69 inch-lbs.

ahhhh I see.... I was confused because the dealership told me the front diff didn't use transmission oil, but gear oil instead... So I assumed there was a separate way of draining it.

And thanks for the torque specs. ill definitely need that in a few weeks

I plan on doing the same on my ES330 (without filter replacement), but I would also like to replace the washer on the drain bolt, but have no idea where to get one.
Is this one the correct one?

Where can I verify part OEM 90430-18008 is the correct one?

Also, I will do it in three cycles (3.7 qt each weekend), so I fully exchange it. Should I replace the washer each time I do it?
Not sure what to do with 10 pieces.

90430-18008 is correct. It should never need to be replaced.

The transmission plug washer is an aluminum crush washer and should be replaced. You could get two uses out of the washer by flipping it over, but it's best to replace.
