Information
Listen I know how to remove an engine, a transmission, but before I get to involve into putting my daughter's ES300 back together I wanted to know.

I just went through this and have some issues still to resolve but I'll give you my advice based on what I found out in the process. If I'm wrong on any of this hopefully someone will correct me and educate us both.
Older transmissions had a 5pin connector which is a A540E. newer A541E ones had a 9 pin. It's important that you get the one that matches your car. Trying to post a pic but if I can't it's on the front side drivers side of the mounted trans right near the battery. There are 2 connectors close together there, a long rectangular one which is about 3 inches long, and the one to focus on. A 5 pin is about 1" both directions. A 9 pin is more rectangular, about 2 in by 1 inch.
In looking for specs, it appears that the A541E was used starting in 1994, so you would think a 95 ES300 would have one. Not so. My 95 had the A540E 5 pin in it.
Here's my story. I bought on Ebay from a store locally (30 min away)a '95ES300 transmission. I went to pick it up and he asked which one I had. I didn't know so I took the 9 pin trans with the agreement to exchange it if it was wrong. Took it to the Trans shop that was to install if for me they checked and declared it the wrong one.
Went back to exchange it, but they didn't have any 5 pin Transmissions. He called a couple other sources and they did not have them either. So he called a good mechanic that he knew and he said you can take the 5 pin Solenoid and install it in the 9 pin transmission and it will work. I did some reading on the net and concluded that should work so that was the plan.
So I went back to the Trans install shop and told them this, But I got a guy there who said it would NOT work. He said the torque convertor would not even bolt up. Well now they have my trans pulled and it's on the lift waiting for the new one to go in. So I located a 5 pin on craigslist and bought that one, which they installed. It was out of a Camry so I'm told.
It works, but I'm getting a speed sensor error which I have to resolve. I'm thinking that Camry's and Es300's have different speed sensors but I have yet to solve that one.
When I took the 1st trans back for a refund, the guy insisted the Torque Converter is the same. This is a reputable guy who I think should know, He did refund my money though.
I think he was right and the solenoid could have been changed out. I was gonna try it myself just to see.
I hope that helps. Where are you in Texas, I 'm in DFW, and can give you my sources if you're interested.
