Default 92 es300 transmission wont engage gear please help

Hello. I just bought a 92 es300. When i First Got the car it had no sign of transmission problems. All of a sudden on the way home one Day i was driving And out of nowhere it just stopped driving. I tried putting it into Lower gears And still wouldnt drive. Prior to this happening the car didnt give me no sign of slipping or anything. AND there is no Check engine light. So im trying to figure out if the Tranny just no good or is it something more simple. Anyone have any suggesions?

I just had the same problem with my '02 ES300. Check the codes, even though you do not have a check engine light. Mine showed a bad solenoid. I am in the process of replacing the transmission with a used one.

Well yea i did realize that replacing the Tranny would be the worst case senario. I can get a Jdm Tranny with less than 50000 miles on it for $400. But i was hopin i could avoid that. Someone told me that could be the spider gear inside the Tranny. Its supposed to be the gear that engages the car to drive. I dont know. I just dont wanna buy a Tranny if i dont need one.

Sounds like whoever sold it to you - sold you car with bad transmission and probably they knew about it. They probably put one of those tranny fix fluids in there just to prolong its life a little more and then it crapped out on you. It is too coincidental that you just bought it and it just broke on you. Sucks, but this is the risk we take with used cars.

Yea. Well i bought it knowing its condition. The car is suuuper clean for a 92. Ill have pics on my profile soon. I have a booklet with alllll the services ever done to the car And Everything was done by the dealer. It even has the original lexus First aid kit In Mint condition. The car was owned by my bestfriends father since 92. i bought it for $500. The engine is real strong And quiet. AND the car is super clean inside And out And under the hood. Even the original clear coat is still fresh.. It was garage kept all its life.

500$ sounds about right if its real clean for that year. Now tranny is going to set you back 2-3-4x that amount (depending on where you live) and now it is close to 2K car. Did you test drive and took it through all of the gears on highway before you bought it? How does the color of transmission fluid look like? If its too clean - may be the sign that they just replaced the fluid/tried to flush the tranny in the attempt to fix it.

Personally i would not bother replacing tranny on a 500$ car. Just cut your losses, you can probably still get your 500$ back even with bad transmission, again depending on where you live.

Scratch that if you can DIY to replace the tranny.

In Mass i remeber getting quotes of around 1500-1800$ to put in refurb tranny into average american car make. It is not worth spending THAT much on a '92 all im saying.

Well i live n atlanta ga. Jdm Tranny is gonna cost me only $400. Ima do timing belt And water pump at the same time. Ima do all my own work. So im only gonna spend a fraction of what a Shop would charge. So not worried. I just wanted to make sure that the Tranny was no good for sure.
