ES300 Timing Belt Costs?
Hello all- I have a new to me 1998 es300 with 125k miles. It hasn't had the timing belt replaced yet. In calling for estimates, I looked to replace the following: timing belt, water pump, crank seal, cam seal, tensioner and idler pulleys and the thermostat. I've gotten back estimates from a Lexus dealer for 1317 and a good indie for 1265. Both seem high to me. Shouldn't this job be more like 800-900? (Searching this forums brings up costs in this range)
I'm in Dallas, and if anyone has a good recommendation for a mechanic let me know, Thanks!

You don't need to replace the thermostat, don't worry about it. Don't forget that you probably need the accessory belts (A/C and Power Steering). I would recommend getting the AISIN kit from RockAuto, it comes with a hydraulic tensioner, water pump, two pulleys, and the belt - it's $180. Then you will also need three seals (crankshaft and the two camshafts). Those you will need to get from the dealer - very inexpensive. You can also get the accessory belts from them. Since you're in Texas, I would recommend using Sewell Lexus (they have a discount for ClubLexus members).
Once you have all the parts, find someone who will do the work for you. Oh and finally, you will need about half a gallon of Toyota Red coolant, if you're not planning to drain all of it.
It shouldn't take more than 4 hours for a Mechanic. I bought all my parts from the dealer and had a buddy install them.

Thanks for the info, I am 50/50 on doing the project myself and the repair estimates might push me in that direction. I got the quote above from Sewell, and while they do have great customer service, the price is high.
