Default Rear main seal... again :(

Hey guys !

So, in february this year, i did an engine swap with the help of my uncle ( due to a rear main seal leak)
Now, when we put in the "new engine " so to speak ; ( 100,000 km - 60,000 mi)
Before we hoisted the engine back in, we swapped the rear main seal as a precatution.
6 months down the road, i noticed a moderatly sized pool of oil ( roughly the diameter of a tennis ball ) on my uncles driveway. My car had only been sitting there for about an hour and a half.

It doesn't look like transmission fluid or any sort of brake fluid, so are there any other things it could possibly be ?

If it is the real main seal, what are the chances of it happening after only being replaced 6 months ago ?

Thanks in advance for any advice !

Check your dipstick to see how low it is.

If it's leaking that amount of oil in 90 minutes, I'm amazed there's even a drop of oil left in the engine, it sounds like it could drain itself in a few days. I'd be making sure the pool of oil is actually from your car and not someone else's. It could also be something simple like an oil filter or drain plug that wasn't properly tightened.

You can buy a UV dye to put in the oil for relatively cheap to find exactly where the leak is coming from yourself. If it's the rear main, it must have been installed improperly, because there's no way a new seal should fail in 6 months.

You sure it's not water condesate from the AC drain. The drain is in that general area and it's the right time of the year.

Come to think of it, are you even sure it's from YOUR car?

So, After driving my car again today, there was less of a leak than yesterday, it seems to have slowed...
It is a central leak but it looks more to the passenger side than drivers side.
I'm hoping it's just a loose bolt.

the rear main was installed by my uncle ( qualified mechanic for 25 years )

I'm going to check it out properly this weekend..

Cam seal, valve cover gasket, P/S pump seal are a few items to pay attention also.

After hoisting it up, we found that it was coming from the valve cover gasket. The reason i thought it was the main seal is because it ws dripping down then engine to the area where the transmission meets the engine. Turns out that there was very little transmission fluid in there aswell, so topped it up with drxIII
