just get the valve cover gaskets from your dealer.

I paid 20$ per [i'm doing front & back] from the dealership [in 40%+ overpriced Canada]

You must have been looking at some other gasket, possibly the Intake Manifold gaskets (the ones between the cylinder heads and the intake manifold)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that you need two special tools for this job. First is a Torx E6 socket for the wiring harness above the front valve cover. Second is a 5/16" (I believe it's 8mm) Allen key/external socket for the Intake Plenum.
I had no trouble finding a Torx E6 Socket but I've tried various search terms for the 5/16" Allen key/external and I am not confident that I am getting the right results. Is this a male or female tool? And do you think the 1996 will need them too?

It's a male Allen socket. I believe the correct size is actually 10mm - I could be wrong though. This is what you need it for.

p.s.: I don't know if the 1996 intake plenum is attached the same way.

Does anyone have a photo of which position the spark plug seals go in? I bought a Fel-Pro kit and I think my seals may be a little different from OEM. I cant find a picture anywhere!

Yeah, that's why I can't figure out which direction they go in. I'm not doing this a second time haha. Time to go to the dealer. Thanks for confirming that its different!

Yeah, good idea. The factory ones are flat on one side and sort of look like the left one, on the other side... if I recall correctly. This job is such a pain in the ***, that you definitely want to get it right the first time.

To the DIY'ers that have done the rear valve cover job, how long did it actually took you to finished?

I used these Fel- Pro seals. The side on the left is the side that faces toward the inside of the engine. and the side on the right is the one that you will see the edge of when you place your spark plug leads into the holes.
I had to tap them in with a rather large socket and I wasn't exactly gentle. It's a tight fit. When you go to put the covers back on the heads make sure to run something like your fingernail around the spark plug tube to make sure it isn't catching the seal, you'll feel resistance if it is and you'll damage the seals if you try forcing it.

The rear cover can be especially frustrating, if you're having trouble with the wiring harness you might consider disconnecting the rear o2 lead for some slack. I found it alot easier with another pair of hands to hold it out of my way when removing/installing the rear cover.

The plenum bolts are an 8mm allen head. you'll need something similar to this http://www.harborfreight.com/9-piece...7880-html.html to easily remove them.

The first time probably 10 hours over two days. The last time probably 5 hours. I labeled everything. I put a number on the connection point with a sharpie and the corresponding cable with tape and number. There is one particular bolt that probably took a total of 3 hours to get out and replace. Just takes time, patience and perseverance.
