Default 94 ES300 Headlight switch turns off AC control lights!

Anyone have this issue? Just bought my Lexus a few weeks ago. Whenever I turn the headlights on, the back-lighting for the AC and stereo go out as well as the cig lighter in the center console box. (not the cig lighter under the radio and cupholder.) Was told it was a switch of some kind, my mechanic didn't want to go tearing it apart until he did some research.

Would it not just be the switch that turns the headlights on? Gearing up to take out the cluster to replace backlighting bulbs with leds and do lexucan's fix for the burnt out needles and would like to fix this as well while I'm at it.

Thanks!

In what position do they work? I don't know the earlier models, but my radio lights only function when I have my parking lights or the headlights turned on.

The backlighting for ac lcd screen only works when headlight switch is in the off position. I turn the headlights on and they go out. as well as the lighter outlet inside the center console storage box. Makes it a tad difficult to see any controls at night!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but your backlighting should not be On when the headlights are Off. At least that's the case with the 3ES (again I don't know how it is on the 2ES). So it seems like your switch is backwards.

How would that of happened? Still doesn't explain why the outlet goes off when I switch the lights on though.

You would have to understand how the switch operates and I have no idea. We need somebody who knows car electronics.

I know it's been a while since this thread, but I am having the same problem. And the reason that the backlighting for the ac lcd screen is on when the lights are off is that they are always on when the ignition is on. It should just dim when the headlights are turned on but they go out completely instead. Thanks for any possible fixes.

turn up the back lighting for the Display. With the park lights on you can physically turn them off, with good reason.

If you are talking about the backlighting that adjusts the main dash lights(Speed,Etc), they are up and working fine. Or is there another adjustment for just the temp display and radio buttons?
