My newly purchased '04 ES330 has four brand new tires that were put on by the dealer as part of the deal. They are extremely loud and noisy at highway speeds (over 50mph). The tires are Uniroyals Tiger Paw Touring. I checked the tire pressure and it was a little high(34). I bled the air out to the recommended 29psi on all four. No change. The tires(Dunlops) before were a little noisy but it was a different kind of noisy.

This sound is like a oscillating deep hum. Around town below 50mph they are fine. Also, the left passenger front seems more noisy that the driver front. I really can't tell if the rears are making noise.

Bad tires or possibly bad balancing?

Bad balancing would produce a vibration, you have a bad tire problem. They seem like budget tires, I would recommend going to a bigger brand like Michelin.

So basically they used cheap tires? They'll be getting a phone call tomorrow morning. I really don't feel safe in the car with that kind of vibration.

Wow, Tiger Paws?? I'm suprised they didn't start separating while on the balancer. Tiger Paws are about the most worthless tires ever made. You were better off with the Dunlops. If the dealer is that set on using a cheap tire have them install a set of Kumho tires or even a set of Primewells or Firestone Champions would be better. Those tires will come apart... get them off the car.

Those Uniroyals are junk. You got hosed. Maybe they will swap them out for a better tire. I'm running the Michelin Primacy MXV4 on my 3es. It is an excellent tire, with outstanding traction both wet and dry. They are also very quiet. I can't recommend them enough.

Dealer is not looking out for you, have them swapped out or have them give you some money towards purchase of another tire

Is Uniroyal owned by Michelin?

I talked to the dealer today and they said bring it back.

Uniroyal-Goodrich was purchased by the Michelin group but not the Michelin tire company, as a result they do not benefit from Michelin tires quality technology. I can tell you Uniroyal hasn't produced a tire worth owning in at least 30 years. Had Michelin upgraded Uniroyal-Goodrich as Bridgestone did to Firestone it might be a different story. Avoid them... I wouldn't expect the dealer to spring for Michelins (although if they do take 'em and run!) but if you can get them to put a set of Primewells or Firestone Champions I think you'll be happy...

Have had excellent luck with Yokohama. Wouldn't take a free set of Pirelli's. Bad luck with multiple sets. Can't go wrong with Michelin.

I run Michelin Pilot Exalto a/s on my 04 es. Been a very good tire. Firestone Winterforce in the winter, noisey but I don't get stuck.
