Default door handles: undersides are insanely hot in summer

We have really hot summers. The undersides of my '96 ES300's door handles will fry your fingertips when you open the doors when the sun is out, from about May through to August. I could just always roll my hand up into my shirt as I'm walking to my car and grab the handle that way, but that's ghetto, and I often forget.

What can I do about this? Is it just a matter of adding a coat of paint under there or something? Or can I get some kind of material, cut it to shape, and glue it on?

Serious question. Every summer I tell myself I'll do something about it and I always forget. Hurts like hell.

Tape the backside of the handle in hockey tape or something?

Thanks. You think it'd be a good heat insulator? Would it stick to metal reliably for a while? I don't know anything about hockey tape ... is it pretty sturdy?

Hockey tape is pretty durable, it should stick to metal prety well, it should insulate from heat, but it pretty sticky, so idk depending on how hot it gets it might get sticky.

You could always attach a thin layer of foam there. Curious on where you're located as I never experienced this and my car is parked 24/7 outdoors

I saw another thread somewhere in which someone said to use foam tape. Is that basically the same thing as gluing foam in there, or do I want a specific type of foam and a specific type of glue? I don't know my foams.

I'm in southern California. Hot as hell here in the summer. I looked underneath each of the handles, and whatever paint used to be there has been rubbed away over the years. Is it possible the paint that used to be there deflected heat? I doubt it, but I don't know my paints either.

I'm from SoCal too. In any case, any time of foam will be ok as long as its thin or thick enough to your liking. The paint does help in heat dissipation though so you are correct
