Best timing belt DIY write-up?
Looks like I need to do the timing belt before my daughter takes the Lexus off to school. Soooo, I'm wondering if you guys can point me to the best DIY write-up for tackling this job? 3.0 liter v6 of course ('96 es300). Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks for the tip on the youtube vid's PFB. Are there any actual DIY's written up anywhere on this forum or anywhere else? Or maybe a link to a factory service manual with the procedure? I'm not only interested in the procedure itself, but reqire the torque settings (especially the crank nut).

I think it's around $27.00 per year. There you will find the step by step procedure with pictorials, and other relevant specs for your particulars model year car.
It's also invaluable for other technical info about your car.

I did check ou tthe video above and everything seems pretty straighforward.
But wow, there aren't any DIY's here on this forum? A good forum DIY will beat All Data hands down. Has anyone on this forum done the timing belt themselves?

I've been searching for DIY's on ToyotaNation under the 3rd/4th Gen Camry Subforum, but they're only for the 4-banger's.
You can download the factory service manual for a '97 ES300 here.

Also facing timing belt change (93 ES300 167K).
I am questioning if it is common to replace the timing cover gaskets (#1 and #2)?
Can't seem to source them outside of Factory and even then they will have to get them from their warehouse in CA.
thanks

The cover gaskets don't normally need to be replaced. What kills them is oil exposure and also high temperatures. If the new belt does not have marks on it, mark the old belt (also mark the camshafts) and transfer the marks to your new belt, it makes the job much easier.

Thanks. They are 20 years old, but I haven't seen them yet.
Timing belt. I made sure and bought a belt with marks on it. decided to replace idler pulleys even if they seem OK when I get in there inlcuding the idler pulley shaft , repl tensioner (ditto).
I believe I just had an AC compressor failure, so doing some work on that at same time. yee haa. Have Manual, will travel. No pressure, she's just going down to Florida for several months in less than 2 weeks.
