Default DIY transmission fluid change

So i am changing my transmission fluid and have used the search function, but i just want to verify here.

1. Warm up the car and the transmission
2. Use a 10mm to drain the transmission fluid
3. Put 10mm bolt back on and add about 4 qts of http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...RPTRANAMS_____

4. Drive the car around and check the fluid.

My question is, is that good oil to use? and what else will i need to change the fluid? Can i reuse the hex bolt? Sorry if these are stupid questions, this is the first fluid change i've ever done by myself. The car has 180k miles and has had the fluid changed 3 times before.

That's the WRONG oil for your 2001. Your car takes T-IV transmission fluid, and nothing else. Check your owners manual and get it from Toyota. Don't take any chances

I would say say stick with authentic toyota trans fluid, only because i dont know the difference between toyo fluid and valvoline fluid and toyota fluid is designed for the car.....so it cant be wrong?

make sure you are able to take off the fill plug first before you touch the drain.

once you drain the tranny, and you find out your fill plug is seized...you'd be in serious trouble.

just use OEM ATF

Don't mind EEngineer, he has a manual tranny.

You need to get a new gasket for the Hex bolt. Other than that, you might want to remove the pan and take out the filter. For that you will need a new gasket for the pan and a new filter.

Just use Toyota T-IV. Why take chances?

^I don't think i will drop the pan mainly because most of the driving is highway, the fluid has been changed a few times, and i simply dont have the tool or the time. I'm going home just for the weekend to pick up the car and only have a day to change some of the fluid and change the swaybar, which im still unsure on how to do, might just pay someone to do it.

$7.05 a quart?? Geez the most I have paid at a Toyota dealership is $6.11. In cases where I bought more than 4 quarts, the guy gave me a discount, down to $4.89 a quart.

Seriously, if there is a dealership around, I would inquire within. See the attached.

It's as easy to do as an engine oil change, even easier, sine there is no filter involved.

Just make sure that you remove the correct plug. Some people got mixed up between the transmission and engine oil drain plugs.

Also make sure that you refill to the correct level. Check with the engine running, transmission oil hot, and car on level ground. Recheck levels after a few days.

Have fun,

Phil
