Default 2003 ES 300, are the transmission problems solved?

Almost everybody heard of the 2002's having the problems, but are the 2003's also plagued with the defective, slow/retarted transmissions?

Everyone I've talked to has said yes the problem was fixed in the 03, and my test drive seemed to agree. I drove an 02 and then an 03, and the 03 definately had smoother and in my opinion stronger power.

I'm still waiting for the release of the update for all us '02 owners...

Anyone heard any information?

I asked the salesman, and of course he denied any problem existed. The service tech I talked to said the issued had been corrected in the 03, but I didn't ask when it will be availiable for the 02.

I didn't notice any problems, it down shifts without hesitation. I believe the problem could exist only on first cars in production.

No, all the 2002s are affected by this, its the way the transmission is programmed. Its not a defect, its just the programming of the transmission not agreeing with the driver. If you drive the car light then you won't notice. I've taken extensive test drives in several ESes, all the 02s had the issue. Its possible your driving style isnt such that it would be a problem.

I agree with SW03ES. I don't really notice any transmission issue, but if SW03ES drove my '02, I'm sure he'd notice the same thing as he did on the rest of the '02s that he drove.
That's pretty much been the story with various people.
