Sorry fog80, I didnt mean to jump on your case. I am actually replacing my front door speakers too, in the near future. I was woundering what size they were. Will your 6 1/2" fit or is it a little too big, meaning i need 6"? thanx a lot.

I haven't messed with the factory amp at all, so I won't say anything about what I'm not familiar with.
If you want to splice into the factory speaker wires running into the doors, they come out behind that bank of wiring harnesses in the kickpanel. If you pull that out, you can see where the wires come into the car, check the colors of the ones at the speakers and find them where they come into the car.
You should probably build an MDF baffle to mount your mid. This baffle can be bolted to the door and the speaker mounted to the baffle. Make sure it is sealed to the door well, any air leaking will hurt your low end response. I just did this last week, except my 6.5" midbasses look like they're on steroids so I had to enlarge the hole in the door to fit the magnet through and make a 1.5" thick baffle to get enough depth to clear the windows.
Also, sounddeadening the door is highly recommended. It'll help with rattles and improve your midbass performance. I really like Raammat. Easy to work with, works great, and won't break the bank.

how hard is it to get that plastic seal back on the door after you take it off?
and how do you put raamat in the door its only like a little opening where you can get your hand in.

The plastic seal should go right back on and stay, the deadening will also help seal the door. Once you take that plastic off, you'll see a metal piece in the lower, middle part of the door that can be removed with 2 or 3 screws, this will give you pretty good access to the door. I would guess I got well over 90% coverage on that outside skin. You'd then want to replace that metal piece and deaden that entire skin, and the back of the interior panel. I used 2 layers over as much area as possible, but my midbasses are getting alot of power, 1 layer may do it in a more "normal" install.

Seperates, or components are generally higher quality than coaxial speakers. The biggest difference will be the parts used in the crossovers, they are much higher quality in components than in coaxials. There are coaxials that sound good, but most can't compare to high-end, or even mid level components.

well i installed the rockford fosgate components to the factory amp (which has a built in crossover for the tweeters) and i have to say i dont hear much of a difference. i actually think they factory sounded more fuller with richer bass.
maybe when i hook a amp up to them and the 6x9's it will sound better.

The components should come alive when they get a new amp, more and cleaner power. Factory speakers are usually very efficient, so oftentimes they'll be louder with the same power, but aftermarket speakers will be cleaner and have the potential to get louder and sound much better doing it since they'll handle some real power.
