dude, the only way that would happen is if your battery or alternator were stuffed. check the running voltage on the car, and the all stopped voltage on the battery while it's connected to the car, if it's under 12 volts stopped. or under 13.8 volts running it's the alternator or battery.

I had the same issue replaced the starter car would start but not idle, if I applied gas and brought the rpms up it was fine but let off the gas and it died. I disconnected the throttle body (not hard) cleaned it with an old t shirt and some carb cleaner. That seemed to do the trick.

I should add this was a 2002 es300
