Erratic Speedometer in 3rd and 4th
Hello, I am new to the forum, but would appreciate any assistance with my problem.
I drive a 1993 Lexus ES300, with 128k miles and a recently swapped transmission which has 90k miles.
Recently, my speedometer began to operate normally in 1st and 2nd gear, and immediately following the shift into third, the speedo waves erratically between 30-50, sitting quietly at certain speeds.
My understanding is that the 1993 with the 3VZ-FE has 2 speed sensors. Is it possible that one of the speed sensors controls 1st and 2nd and the other does 3rd and 4th?
Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if issues with the speed sensor could affect transmission longevity? It shifts smoothly once it warms up, but I am worried I could be wearing out the clutch packs.
Do the speed sensors have a tendency to fail outright, or is a partially operating situation common? The o/d light is not blinking, which I understand would occur if the speed sensor had a problem?
