Shift ****
Hey guys my shift **** on my 01 Lexus es300 is all ripped up and needs to be replaced. Does anyone know how to properly remove the **** to install a replacement without breaking anything. So far I have dropped the neck part and took out the 2 screws but the biggest problem is removing the O/D switch and disconnecting it to get the old shifter off without tearing out the wires for that switch. I spun the **** around got the switch assembly loose but it just wont release from the factory **** what am I supposed to do to get that off. Also the replacement I have doesn't have the thumb press button you push in when selecting a gear so I need to remove that from the original to if anyone knows how to go about that as well without breaking it.

The easiest method is cutting the O/D wire and splicing it back into your new ****...that or removing the shift assembly and disconnecting it at back of the assembly.
Not sure about the second part of your questions; removing it the thumb press button?

Thanks for the reply, I ended up cutting it and going to reconnect it and heat shrink the connections. When all done it should look nice and new and not all ripped up can't wait to finish it!

Yeah unfortunately that's how it has to be done, no easy way of disconnecting it. What **** are you replacing it with?

I will take a picture of it. I would not recommend anyone to try this if you don't know how to take the entire center console apart. The way they made the O/D Switch connector wires you could not get access without taking out the entire shifter box... After I figured this out I brought it to a professional and had him do the work good thing I knew the guy "discount". He added in quick connects so that if I ever want to change it again for any reason I can do it with ease. Now for the disappointing part, I ordered the shift **** based on my VIN number and when I received the part it was a black **** and my interior is Dark Sage and Ivory. I didn't have the time to send it back and wait for the right color so I had it installed anyways. At first I thought it was going to look awful but with it in there it accents alright with the other few center console parts that are black I will get a good pic to see what I mean.

I had a buddy install that for me along with 2 amp's and a sub in my trunk, I had him hook up the sub to my 2 channel amp and my speakers to my 4 channel amp, he bypassed the stock amp behind the 5 disc CD changer and hooked it all up to the new deck that you see in the pic. I left the old sub in the rear deck and also I was unable to hook up the 5 disc CD changer to the aftermarket deck and I just left that in to. Getting to the deck for removal it's not that hard either just have to be gentle and patient so you don't break or scratch anything....

Hey jawade this is the receiver that I bought http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWXR...and|JVC+Mobile you can check it out for yourself. There is a more expensive model that has all the extra stuff included on that website as well as a lot of different brands. The black enclosure bracket was purchased separately but I can't remember where I got it from or what they are called to Google search it for you sorry. The wooden trim piece surrounding the gear selector mechanism is very easy to remove. It just pops up from the rear and you pull it back away from the ash tray and then up and over the ****. You can use a Flathead screwdriver to pry up the back part just be careful to not chip or scratch anything. You can always put some tape on the end of the screwdriver, that can help to not damage anything.

Gear Shift **** issues
I've been searching around trying to find out options for dealing with a moderately worn gear shift **** for my 98 ES 300. My **** is the Sage color and I'm considering possibly replacing it with the black. After reading this post I see this will not be a DIY job and I'm also noticing finding a replacement is a chore whether it be aftermarket or used. Any suggestions? Anyone have any experience reconditioning or repairing one? Anyone have any suggestions for an aftermarket option?
