My 2000 ES300 Valve cover gasket/sludge check
Hi All,
Wanted to add to the existing information for those concerned with sludge in their engines. The front valve cover gasket was leaking more and more so I decided to do something about it. I purchased the car 2 years ago with 62k miles on it. Today it has 83k miles. It has always had regular oil changes at the toyota dealer. Once I got it I switched to Mobil 1 5w-30 and Pure One filter with 5k intervals with mixed city/hwy driving.
Here is the result:

The leak wasn't really a huge deal at all. It was just creating some oil residue around the valve cover and especially on the side where the seal has to go over the cam. It has just gotten progressively worse over time. There wasn't any oil running down the engine or anything like that. Just something I wanted to address now. It was there before I switched to mobil 1 I don't think the oil had any negative effect on it.
