We just purchased an '04 330 with Nav and the ML system...something is wrong..when we listen to the ML in our 02 430 (sounds incredible) the 300 system sounds like a cheap stock system...have taken it to the dealer (under warranty) and they agreed, and ordered a new subwoofer...but seems like the system underperforms until the volume is at 29+ and then starts to sound" kind of" decent...and no, not wrapper music we are in our 50's...is not "crisp" and sounds muddy...wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem..seems to make a positive difference when you turn off the ASL, seems to be a bit more responsive....have to set the bass at 10(which should be way too much), midrange at 8 and treble at 10..which my wife says hurts her ears...???Please advise...appreciate your experience. Could be a bad HU......the signal starts there, then goes to the amp. If you have garbage in, you get garbage out - no matter how good the speaker(s) system is.....

Is there any way to test this to confirm that the unit is bad besides replacing it?

take it to the audio shop for evaluation...
