2001 es300
I read a few threads on this forum on ES300 but couldn’t find any negatives about 2001 ES300 model. I had a few questions.
Are there any known issues with this model?
Does it give good mpg?
Can I drive it with 87 octane?
I currently own a 1998 camry and am very happy with it. Its nice and quiet and has some 180k miles.
I have always loved the shape of ES 300 and not to mention the quiet ride. I test drove an 2007 ES350 and was disappointed as far as quiet drive is concerned. I thought my 98 camry drives quieter than ES350.
This is the car I am looking at and probably trade in my camry.

I purchased a used 2001 with 52,000 miles on it in February 2003. I have 152,320 miles on it now. I have done nothing but change the oil religiously and replaced the tires as needed. I haven't done anything else to the engine. I balance and rotate the tires and keep the alignment and brakes in good working condition.
I should be doing some of the other maintenance (replace belts, et.) but haven't done any of that.

I can't wait to see come on here asking a question along the lines of:
"Why did my timing belt break? Why is my engine toast now?"
Some people...

This has the motor with VVTI, so it will be/seem more peppier than its predecessors engine. With that though, say goodbye to pretty much any mods... if you were to do so anyways!
MPG, yes, great for a rather heavy V6 fully loaded sedan! I am 200 miles on a half of tank. During the summer i was getting [with AC on all the time] about 350-375 on a tank, which is not bad at all...
87 octane, yes. it is stated as such in the manual, you may use higher octane fuels that burn 'better and cleaner/efficient" [lol] it has been disproved on here a few times as pretty much a myth and attains the same MPG when it is all said & done.
I have 106k on mine and rusn like a dream. Couldn't be happier!

I have a 2001 ES300 Coach Edition an it has 146,000 miles on it an it has no prb. except the rottors keep getting a glaze on them witch causes them to squiel but other than that its a dream had a pretty good smooth ride about 10,000 miles ago b4 i lowered it 2 in. and put some Wald Streifen 19" Rims on it with a super 40 series flowmaster muffler..... the lowering springs kinda messed up the smoothness to the ride.
