I ran a can of Seafoam through my fueltank a few weeks ago. Poured the bottle into a full tank. No more than 3 miles later i get the check engine light. I figured it suspected bad fuel, so no worries. I thought it would go away after the next fillup. But it didnt.

Today however, the light just went away. 3 fillups later and over 700 miles driven. I thought it was weird that it took so long. I read somewhere that it usually goes away 100 miles after the first new tank of gas. I hope it doesnt come back. But i do have an OBDII scanner coming tomorrow from amazon. I bought it after this incident.

Is it common to get a check engine light after fuel cleaner/seafoam?

I have used it on a few vehicles. No check engine light.
Maybe you didn't tighten the gas cap until you hear a "click" sound.

It can very much happen, but assuming all is well after, the light usually goes off by itself.

Well the OBDII scanner came in early, so i decided to give it a try, even though the check engine light went off. With the light OFF, i still got an error code: P0401 EGR insufficient flow...

1. Why am i getting a fault code with the light off.
and
2. Can seafoam cause this code?
