Default diy question: how to put a/c gas

hello. fellas newbie here.

i purchased 94 es 300 with 153k miles couple of weeks ago.

I think my 94 es 300 a/c gas pressure is pretty low. its blowing cold but it gets warmer and warmer when i keep driving around. when its get warmer air out, there is pretty nasty smells in a/c. i dont know why. it could be bad a/c cabin filter?? i assuming.

my question is that i wanna put a/c gas myself. how hard is this? i am trying to go get a can of a/c gas at the autozone or pep boys tomorrow.

i really need your help.

In my 92 I had to purchase the R-12 to R134a conversion kit....Not too sure aqbout a 94 though....Then a can of R134a gas. Very simple to do if you read and follow the directions.

Inlet is on the passengers side near the firewall....

94 has R134a from the factory. Make sure that you read the instructions carefully before trying to use it. IT IS STRONGLY RECOMENDED TO WEAR SAFETY GLASSES! Protect your eyes when dealing with pressurized gas.. If you make a bad mistake you will be thankful you were wearing glasses.

Keep in mind that ambient temps affect system pressures. The gauge on the bottle is not really marked for the temps that we currently have (you guys in AZ are a little hotter than TX). It would be a good idea to charge the system early in the morning when it is still cool outside (ie high 70 ~low 80 ). Put a little in at a time, do not try to rush. Proceed with caution. WEAR GLASS.

Since you do not know the history of the car, I would recomend starting with freon without oil, or dye. Too much oil or dye is a very bad thing, it greatly reduces cooling capacity.
