Default Question about the 'spare key'

Hi, I just wanted to make sure about this. But will the spare key let me turn on the engine (ES300 2001), or must the key be electronically programmed with something (RFID, whatever other junk)? The spare key I have is just a metal thing, like, a normal door key. Because I'm trying to move my parking spot away from tandem parking, and I only have one key available. ie the spare key only lets you open the door, to get your real key if you're ever locked out, and you have to pay some money to clone a second key that actually works. Also, how much does it cost, so I can tell them this is how much it costs.

Thanks,
- Eli

I used to have a spare key, looked like a weird key that fits here It started the car like a regular key.

Yeah, I have a "wallet" key for my 2ES which came with a credit card size holder (like that shown in 3000's post) so you can keep a key in your wallet for emergencies. It does everything the regular key does, including starting the engine. But this was before the days when Lexus started putting transponders in their keys (which began with the 1998 ES model, I believe), so the newer wallet keys won't actually work in the ignition, just for unlocking the door/trunk.
