the part is basicly made to not come off. i have never heard of someone taking the peice out without breaking the clips.

What I did on my SC was buy a piece of vinyl from a shop. Measured it and then cut it to shape and then put it on over the top. Worked a treat and I didn't get shiny gloss, but more of a flat black colour so it didn't "shine".
The advantages are that you can remove it when it's faded (which would take a long time) and replace it. It's cheaper that various other covers. Also as vinyl is thin it doesn't stand out or give extra width to the pillar.
Disadvantages are that you need to clean the surface properly so that the vinyl sticks (but that would be with any other cover), it can eventually peel (which is the same as most other adhesive covers) and when putting it on, you have to make sure that the air pockets (bubbles) are squeezed out from the backing.
Taking time to do it right works a treat, and it's a cheap and easy mod.
