Hi - I have a 1995 ES300 with 95k miles on it and everything has been fine, except today when I tried to open the passenger side door from the outside, it wouldn't open. It had to be opened from the inside with the pull latch. There is no damage to the door or handle and all locking functions, including closing of the door work properly.

I took the access panel off, but didn't see any compartment to get to the door handle. Am I to assume that one of the plastic clips that connects the linkage to the handle broke off, resulting in it not opening the passenger door from the outside?

What can I do to fix it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I actually had the same problem as you. Yes chances are there is a plastic piece that is broken. after you open the car door you have to take off the access panel, reach up into behind the window and feel your way towards the door handle.

over there where the handle is on the outside, the inside will have what feels like a metal ring, a metal rod and a plastic holder type thing will be would normally be latched inside the metal ring.

The broken plastic thing can be ordered through your local Lexus dealer, and I hope this gave you a better description as to what to ask for. :x
