Engine sound
Well winters is at our doors here in quebec, it already snowed about 10 cm, i noticed that when my car is on the idle warming up, shes making a 'clucking' sound, my dad own a subaru 4cyl and its not as 'hard cluking' that hes one but it still bother me. when shes hot, i cant notice it.
First is it normal??? ( for those of you who have winters....)
and what i have to know is , is a compression test will tell me if my car can last long time,
How is a good compression ??? 180????
thanks in advance charley :P hahaha

Yep, actually a ticking noise would be more accurate when describing lifter noise.
Your engine has mechanical lifters and is supposed to have 0.15mm-0.25 clearance on the intake and 0.25 to 0.35 on the exhaust lifters. As the engine warms up these grow (expand) with the temp and close the gap to near zero. The colder it is outside the bigger the gap at start up.

usually gets louder as the car gets older.
I think you can fix by re adjusting lifters? But don't quote me on that... I usually just ignore it unless it gets super loud.
p.s I hate quebec for taking all the winter tires. Stupid laws... makes it harder for me to get blizzacks for the G35. other than that i wanna go to montreal!

thanks everyone!
HAHAHA, stupid law but i like it, last year we had exactly 558 cm of snow, and there were a few one ( i mean a lot) that were still on four season tire, even in january with it 30 sub 0 degres.....
well, is it a PITA to replace those lifter, and expensive?
if yes then i think that i will let it run until it became hot!
