Default Strange behavior in trying to program a new master key

Hey folks

I bought my ES300 back in January. I noticed that this car has a remote starter antenna hanging from the cloth ceiling area by the rear view mirror, but the key I have definitely has the chip inside still, so all keys should behave normally (the only key we have has been acting fine since day one).

Additionally, I just had the 90K service done. Strangely, before my mechanic did the 90K service, when I locked and unlocked the doors, the car didn't make a beeping sound as if an alarm was going on. I never knew these cars even did that. When the car came back to me after the 90K service, using my master key to lock or unlock the car suddenly results in a beeping noise...can someone tell me if this is normal operation...?? And any ideas on why it wouldn't have been happening before? Even more scary if it's not supposed to be happening and suddenly is...

Anyway, I ordered a second master key recently. I tried using Ariyanna's instructions on the below referenced thread to get the remote portion to work. I got the key to start the engine, which is great, but want the remote to work too.

I got to the last couple of steps. The car unlocked and locked itself the first time I tried this, so all seemed to be normal. Then when I held down the lock button on the remote, nothing happened. I did it again anyway and nothing happened...tried using it after closing the door from outside and it wasn't working. I tried one more time to program it per below instructions and strangely, when I got to step 10, the car locked and unlocked itself THREE times, not just once. Still no dice on the remote working afte following all of the instructions. Any ideas?

1. Sit in the driver's seat and lock all the doors.
2. Unlock and open the driver's door.
3. Insert the key into the ignition and remove it (don't turn it...just remove it).
4. Using the MANUAL lock switch on the driver's door, lock and unlock the door 5 times.
5. Close the door.
6. Open the door.
7. Lock and unlock the driver's door 5 times (with the power switch).
8. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position.
9. Remove the key.
10.The driver's door will now lock and unlock itself one time.
11.Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob for at least 1 second.
12.Close the driver's door.
13.Open the driver's door.
14.Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob for at least one second.
15.Close the driver's door.
16.Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob. The door will lock.
17.Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob again. The door will unlock.

My mechanic tried programming this with instructions he found through his own resources - same ones - and he just couldn't get it to work. I wonder if I have a bad key? Likely out of warranty now and both still work as Master keys.

Only option left is stealership, but this key is mostly in the event of losing our main key, so I will hold off for now in case anyone has other suggestions?

This car definitely had a remote starter in it at some point and my mechanic said that likely is NOT holding up the remote functionality of the new key because the other key's remote function works.

We both get to the very end of programming the new remote and it just doesn't complete the last two or three steps...

tried this again - have a new master key because the original one broke. now i can't program that new one as a master key and still can't program the second key I bought, which does work as a master key, to work as a remote. After step 15 or so it locks and unlocks by itself twice, which isn't in the instructions. Guess I'm going the stealership route next week!
